Margarida Fernandes (b. 1991) is a Portuguese-British artist based between Cornwall and London.

Her work explores the intersection of memory, place, and identity.

Inspired by ’saudade’, a cultural concept/state of being between yearning and forgetting from her Portuguese upbringing, she uses mixed media and processes such as sanding, layering and monoprinting to capture the passage of time and the fragmentary quality of memory.

Her landscapes are seen through frames, windows, or fleeting views, mirroring the way we recall the past: fragmented, shifting, shaped by joy, loss, and experience.

Creating these patinaed paintings becomes a way to reflect on impermanence and resilience.

She aims to create relics of personal and collective history, objects that feel both sacred and timeworn, where beauty and unease coexist.
